High bun, midi bun, low bun, French twist, the Pammy, or even a higher half-up, half-down style — all of these gorgeous looks bring up one very important bridal question: where does the veil go?

Higher styles have been trending hard over the past year, and all signs point to them sticking around. They’re flattering, elegant, and look amazing on just about everyone… but they do make veil placement a little more of a decision moment.

Wearing the veil over the top can absolutely be a vibe. I’m loving the comeback of the big, fluffy pouf veil right now. That said, popular options like the Mantilla veil, drop veil, and Juliet cap can be directly affected by a style worn high on the head — so placement really matters here.

If you’re leaning toward wearing your veil under the style so your hair can fully shine, that’s definitely possible — but it may take a little extra planning. If your veil has a comb (quick reminder: metal over plastic, always!), the size and shape can sometimes create a challenge. Combs can’t simply slide straight up without risking gravity doing its thing (no one wants a runaway veil), and inserting them downward can disrupt the foundation and security of the hairstyle.

The move if you decide to wear it under? Veils can be altered to remove the comb entirely and replace it with sewn-in loops, allowing the veil to be secured with bobby pins instead. This gives you more flexibility in placement and keeps everything feeling locked in and comfortable.

My recommendation: try your veil on with a mock-up of the hairstyle you’re considering. Seeing the full look together makes all the difference and allows you to decide if you want to adjust the style, the veil, or both. A little trial now saves a lot of second-guessing later — and lets you walk down the aisle feeling confident and carefree ✨
